What makes y’all different from each other? “He’s really shy and I’m a lot bolder. I love to talk a lot. I make new friends literally everywhere I go. Like WHAT’S YOUR NAME?? WHAT’S YOUR NAME? MY NAME IS…” So you’re more shy than she is? “Yeah, he is. So I have to do the talking for him….” Do you like it when she does that? “Sometimes.”
“Sometimes I envy him.” What do you envy about him? “He has a bigger room than me. By about two inches. But it’s BIGGER. I could fit a lot of craft supplies in that extra space.”
How will things change when you start middle school in the fall? “Nobody will say, “Oh, that’s your sister.” Are you looking forward to that? “Yeah.” “Yeah, because I publicly embarrass him whenever I can. I mean, WHENEVER I CAN. “HEY THAT’S MY BROTHER!”
What’s one of her special talents? “She can turn into a unicorn.” How does that work? “I don’t know. She got the power somehow.” What does she do when she turns into a unicorn? “Um, she does this dance.”
“I do a better Grandma accent than him. I come to school as Grandma at least twice a year.” Just because? “Yep yep yep.” How does your Grandma accent go? “Well, first I need the wig. I need the cane, and I need the tiny little Grandma bag with the non-stinking spray. Oh, and the hard candies.”
“When people ask me what I want to be when I grow up, I say “an evil genius” and then my brother says, “Why wait?”
What’s hard about being the oldest kid? “I don’t get as much attention because people usually believe her stories.”
If you’re an Evil Genius Unicorn, then what is your brother? “He’s a real nowhere man…Sitting in his nowhere land…Making all his nowhere plans for nobody…Doesn’t have a point of view…Knows not where he’s going to…Isn’t he a bit like you and me?” “No.” “It’s a Beatles song, dude. Just go along with it.”
What’s the best thing about having a sibling? “It’s nice to have a partner in crime. Someone to blame when people start asking questions.”
